Let’s make some cash: How to monetize your blog

Monetizing your blog, or making cash from your blog, can be a lot of fun and when done well can provide a nice, fairly steady source of revenue – how much revenue will depend a lot on you and how you set your blog up to maximize its revenue making potential. The most common ways which you can make cash from your blog are:

Products/Services generated by you

Memberships

Information selling (IE software or ebooks)

Advertising

Affiliate marketing

Sponsored posts

Paid reviews

Donations

Consulting

Products/Services Generated by You

You can use your blog to sell your physical services to local areas, your products internationally, and your knowledge everywhere as a consultant.

Memberships

Using your knowledge, you can sell memberships to areas of your blog site. You can also sell memberships to other sites as an affiliate.

Information selling (IE software or ebooks)

Virtual product sales can yield good results if you have your own ebooks or software, or find a good business whose virtual products you feel confident selling. One example would be selling a computer software program which was brand new for an unknown developer, or something as well known as antivirus software for a larger company in exchange for a comission. If you have knowledge and write an ebook, you can sell that or you can find ebooks to sell online. Sometimes you may find free ebooks which you are legally allowed to sell or to bundle together in order to enhance the sale of another product.

Advertising

Through various methods such as CPM (cost per thousand) you can place ads on your blog and be paidi each time the ad shows up. The advantage is that the more traffic you have, the more times the ad is showing up on your readers’ computers and the more you will make. Other methods have ads placed on your blog and you are paid a small amount each time a reader clicks on the ad to be directed to the advertiser’s page.

Affiliate marketing

This is where you find a product you like which sells well, and you create links and perhaps some online store interface so that your readers can buy the products by clicking on the link, and you will receive a comission of some percent for each sale you bring the advertiser.

Sponsored posts

Companies may pay you to write posts specifcally about their products or services and post it on your blog. Similarily, you may be able to get paid to write reviews for products and services that you post on your blog.

Donations

While not a large revenue earner, having a pay pal donate button on your site is handy for those who find your free information invaluable and want to support you in continuing to blog about it.

Consulting

If you have specific knowledge that you would like to share and people are willing to pay for it, your blog could be an online consulting blog where some information is free, some requires a membership, and some is one-on-one and paid hourly or per project.

Try alternating or even a combination of these approaches to monetize your blog and get the best possible revenue from it. Some methods may work better than others, so don’t be afraid to try and even fail in order to find the best fit for your blog and your posting style. Work with established companies and develop a realistic plan to grow your blog.

It’s important that you enjoy what you are doing because the best paid bloggers are the ones who really know their audience, subject area or product, and provide top notch interaction with their readers. In the world of blogging, after you monetize your blog you really can be doing a job you love so that it feels like you never have to work a day in your life again.
